The Yerevan Botanical Garden is one of the largest green areas in Yerevan, it has both scientific and social significance as a green area for public use.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1935, since then no serious landscaping works have been carried out. Therefore, in 2023, with the financial support of the Hovnanian Foundation, the “Friends of the Botanical Garden” NGO initiated the design and construction of the Memorial Park.
According to the design assignment, it should have some educational value, while at the same time being a green public space.
The total area is 6,055 square meters, all of it is green. The purpose of the project is to ensure the zones defined in the design assignment, while maintaining the green mass-the foliage of trees, as well as maximum water permeability.
For this purpose, 99% of the area does not pass water. In order to achieve this ratio of water-repellent surfaces, the paths and platforms available in the area are mostly covered with sand or pebbles. In some cases, polished materials such as felled tree trunks and natural stone were also used on the paths.
All 260 trees on the territory are preserved, and another 60 are proposed to be planted as part of the project.
