The Yerevan Botanical Garden is one of the largest green areas in Yerevan. It has both scientific and social significance as a green area for public use.
The Botanical Garden was founded in 1935, and since then no serious landscaping has been carried out. Therefore, in 2023, the Friends of the Botanical Garden NGO initiated the design and construction of the Memorial Park with the financial support of the Hovnanian Foundation.
The design assignment envisaged also certain educational objectives, while at the same time being a green public space.
The total area is 6’055 square meters, all of it in green. The purpose of the project is to ensure the zones defined in the design assignment, at the same time maintaining the greenery, the foliage of trees, as well as maximum water permeability, which is 99%. To achieve this ratio of water-repellent surfaces, the paths and platforms available in the area are mostly covered with sand or pebbles.
All 260 trees within the territory are preserved, and another 60 will be planted as part of the project.
